Some Interesting Stuff: Maybe to Some People.
Description of Luther's Rose: In the Words of Martin Luther.
"The first thing expressed in the seal is a cross, black, within the red heart, to put me in mind that faith in Christ crucified saves us. "For with the heart man believes unto righteousness."
Now, although the black cross is intended to cause pain, it does not change the color of the heart, does not destroy nature. In other words, it does not kill but keeps alive. "For the just shall live by faith"--by faith in the Savior.
This heart is fixed on the center of a white rose to show that faith causes joy, comfort, and peace. The rose is white not red, because white is the ideal color of all angels and blessed spirits.
This rose, moreover, is fixed in a sky-colored background to show that such joy of faith in the spirit is but a promise and beginning of heavenly joy to come. This joy, though not yet revealed, is looked forward to and held by the hope which we have. Around this background is a ring to show that such bliss in heaven is endless. Since the ring is made of gold, the best and most precious metal, it also shows that the bliss of heaven is more precious than all other joys and treasures.
Being a Christian and a part of a Lutheran Community is easy to understand:
We believe that we are freed to be who God created us to be because God has given us the Free Gift of Grace . This love now motivates us to live by faith. God's Grace is offered to all people. God's generosity towards us motivates us to serve others. Being Lutheran is meaningful because it places us as Christians in a tradition of reform and change. We realize that the church needs constant reformation and change. This keeps us on our toes to be relevant in living God's timeless Grace.
What is the meaning of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Logo?
The logo is a graphic representation of the statement: marked by the cross of Christ forever, we are claimed, gathered, and sent for the sake of the world. This context reflects both the good news of Christ coming into the world and the church as the Body of Christ in the world. The visual motion within the cross and the surrounding orb reminds us of the spreading light of the Gospel of Christ. Within the spheres of the orb are smaller crosses (a design sometimes known as the “Jerusalem Cross”), a traditional symbol for the commission to spread the Great News of God's Love to the whole world.
